Meet the  Critters

Buckwheat

"A good laugh heals a lot of hurts." -Madeleine L'Engle

This is true, it is hard to feel bad when you're around Buckwheat. He has a wonderful capacity to ignore what causes others stress and to find something amusing in most any situation. As our first horse at Steadfast, Buckwheat has given us tons of laughs and lots of stories to tell.

Knight

“However difficult life may seem, there is always something that you can do and succeed at”- S. Hawking

Knight is the herd leader of the farm and has taken this job as his service to the family. Unfortunately, in his younger years before he came to us, he injured his leg, which leaves him unable to carry a rider. Knight, fully knowing his injury, does not bind himself to it, he knows that he is more than that past hurts he believes in his true identity. His example and leadership truly empowers the rest of the herd and all those who work with him to believe in our true identity and know that we can do immeasurably more.

Petunia

“March on. Do not tarry. To go forward is to move toward perfection. March on, and fear not the thorns, or the sharp stones on life’s path." -Kahlil Gibran

Petunia is our biggest horse in the family, due to her being part draft-horse. Many think that Petunia has a very “Eeyore-like” complexion due to her drooping eyes and low-hanging head, but don’t let that fool you. Petunia is a Steadfast horse at heart, strong in both stature and mind (as you can see in her picture on our homepage!). Where she goes, she goes with purpose. Her steadiness is to be admired as she does not frighten easily. Even in her old age, Petty has a young heart and a willing mind. She is always ready to learn new skills, and once she makes a friend she is loyal to the core.

Sadie

"Rivers know this: there is no hurry. We shall get there some day." --A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh

Sadie was rescued from a feedlot, the last stop before being sold for slaughter. Somehow, she was deemed as unworthy of anything more. Instead, we have found her to be the sweetest, most peace-giving horse you could imagine. She doesn't move fast, but she is sure and true.

Spanky

“Life is too important to be taken seriously.” –Oscar Wilde

Since Spanky has joined the family, he has brought joy and energy to both his canine and human friends. Remarkably, Spanky’s buoyant nature is not bound by preconceived judgments regarding others, instead he gladly carries the responsibility of spreading slobbery love filled kisses, amusement, and tail wagging zing to everyone!

Falcon

"Remember who you are. Don’t compromise for anyone, for any reason. You are a child of the Almighty God. Live that truth.” –Lysa Terkeurst

Falcon is our most athletic and well-trained horse. He is what a horse should be. Occasionally he forgets that, but when he does remember who he is you can just feel the power of God through him. Through a couple of tough situations, he has proven that his dedication during strife is an impressive attribute. His manners allow him to make whoever is working with him look good. He will kindle a fire in your soul for horses.

Melody

"You unravel me, with a melody, you surround me with a song of deliverance, from my enemies, 'til all my fears are gone." -No Longer Slaves, Bethel Music

Melody is a newcomer here at Steadfast. We believe she will become a very special part of life to many who are dealing with fear and insecurity. It's amazing how we can learn so much about our ultimate security in Christ by developing trust and relationships with His creatures.

Raven

“Happiness often sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open.” -John Barrymore

Long before the dream of Steadfast Family Farm had been conceptualized, Raven was actually already a part of the Bethea’s family back in 2009. However, over the past couple of years she has transitioned homes more than once as her purpose has been redefined and shaped. Along the way, Raven became the companion horse to Petunia, a friendship which actually saved both of their lives. When Raven first left several years ago, it could not have been foreseen that she would one day return to the Bethea’s home, this time for the purpose of serving in the ministry and bringing her lifetime pal, Petunia, into the growing family. Light on her feet and quick in her mind, Raven’s age nor her “asthma” should fool you. Raven is a valuable leader for the rest of our mares, and she is one who is always willing to teach you something new if you’re willing to listen.

Sam

Over and over, I fall for you. - Unknown

Sam is a great big powerful dog with a heart so full of love and excitement that he has trouble containing it. When he sees one of his beloved people he literally falls to the ground, belly up offering submission and acceptance of all the love offered to him. There is a lot to learn from this pup. Wouldn't we all be a bit better off if we just let go of our own agendas and fell to the feet of Jesus, the one always there to offer us love and acceptance and the way to true life?
